Swivels

Follower styling in which the walk-walk counts (1–2 of most patterns) are danced with the feet closing and the hips rotating through each step. Swivels are optional and chosen by the follower when the connection and tempo leave room for them.

Megan of West Coast Swing Online gives a placement rule: almost any triple step that rotates a half turn can be replaced with a swivel or sweep, anchors included.¹ They can be tight and low, bigger with a sweep out and back in before the step, or lifted.² Done on time they do not disturb the partnership, since the follower is on the expected foot at the expected moment.³
