Throwout

intermediate

also known as: Toss Out · Whip Throwout · Slingshot Throwout

A whip-family pattern in which the follower is released ("thrown out") down the slot instead of being brought back to closed position.

Danced like a whip through the first half; on 5–6 the leader lets the follower travel out to open position, often with a free turn, and both anchor apart. Common as a transition from closed-position figures back to open work, and as a dramatic musical accent when the release is timed to a hit in the music.
