Whip with Outside Turn

The mirror of the whip with inside turn: the follower takes an outside (clockwise) turn on counts 5–6 while returning down the slot. It is commonly used to set up spins, hand changes, or free-spin exits. The turn starts after the post, not on 4.

For a single turn the lead arm stays long and open through the redirection. Robert Royston warns that bringing the arm in usually makes it a double turn.¹ In the double-turn version each step is a half rotation, and either version finishes with an underarm turn to fix the handhold.²
