Slingshot
intermediatealso known as: Slingshot Pass
A left side pass cut off early into a shared stretch: instead of letting the follower travel through, the leader catches the second hand and both partners settle into opposition — hips stretching away from each other — before releasing into an exit.1
The connection
Brian B builds it on a slightly outward, rotational connection (the childhood doorway-press feeling): flare the elbows without pushing the hands out, "read the paper" open on count 2, roll together on 3, and set on 4 by taking the rotation back out of the arms — that's what lets both partners land the stretch instead of bouncing off it.2 Filipe de Barros cues the same shape from the follower's side: forward on 1 and 2, land on 3, stretching away while the leader stretches the other way.3
Common notes
- The pocket is playtime: hip bumps are the classic filler (led from the centers, not the arms), and grooving in place works just as well.4
- Standard exits are a tuck or an inside turn, but vary them — and try accelerating the entry ("one, two-and-three") to land the stretch on a hit in the music.5
- Brian B tests the partnership with a hustle whip first — it proves the pair can share the middle of the slot before the slingshot asks them to.6
