Wrapped Whip

A whip variation in which the follower is caught in a wrap at the midpoint (cuddle or sweetheart position, with the follower's back to the leader's front and arms crossed), then released down the slot. The exit can unwind, with the follower turning out, or release straight.

It differs from the basket whip mainly in the entry and in the height and shape of the wrap. The two names are often used interchangeably in classes.

Matt and Maggie of Daily Dance Services teach a version in two sets of six: a half whip ending in a right-to-left handhold, then rolling the follower into a wrap on the leader's left side facing down the slot, with a tuck-turn exit that turns the follower out clockwise.¹ The leader asks for the follower's free hand as the roll-in starts, because collecting it late loses the tuck exit.²
